Welcome to Piazzale Michelangelo

The next destination i went today is Piazzale Michalangelo. About 20 minutes from my apartment. Well, the day was fine and i walked all the way to this destination. A bit introduction of Piazzale Michelangelo, Piazza Michelangelo is on a hill on the south bank of the Arno River, just east of the center of Florence. Designed in 1869 by Poggi, it offers a great view of the city, and is a very popular tourist destination.

To the southwest is a stone wall

Looking northwest, the clock tower from the Palazzo Vecchio (1200s) and Brunelleschi's dome atop the Duomo cathedral (1400s) rise above the city skyline.

From the beautiful terrace of Piazzale Michelangelo it is possible to admire one of the most impressive views of Florence nestling in the Arno valley, surrounded by gently sloping hills. In the centre of the square stands the Monuments to Michelangelo (1875) with a bronze reproduction of the four statues depicting Day, Night, Dawn and Dusk (from the Medici tombs in the New Sacresty of San Lorenzo), dominated by the statue of David. On the hill behind Piazzale Michelangelo stands the Church of San Miniato al Monte.

Another view of Viale Michelangelo.
Some benches, and the piazza in the background.
